I Promise Myself- The Secret

I Promise Myself

To be so strong that nothing can
disturb my peace of mind.
To talk health, happiness, and prosperity
to every person I meet.
To make all my friends feel that there is
something worthwhile in them.
To look at the sunny side of everything
and make my optimism come true.
To think only of the best, to work only for
the best and to expect only the best.
To be just as enthusiastic about the
success of others as I am about my own.
To forget the mistakes of the past and
press on to the greater achievements of the future.
To wear a cheerful expression at all times and
give a smile to every living creature I meet.
To give so much time improving myself that
I have no time to criticize others.
To be too large for worry, too noble for anger,
too strong for fear, and too happy to
permit the presence of trouble.
To think well of myself and to proclaim this fact to the world,
not in loud words but in great deeds.
To live in the faith that the whole world is on my side,
so long so I am true to the best that is in me.

Turning Straw into Gold

I was brought up to look for the bright side of life.  I've always been one of those annoying "it could be worse" kind of girls.  Even now, with chronic illnesses, being the primary care giver for my Mom who has chronic illnesses, I am still thankful for what I am able to do and constantly looking for the silver lining.  Imagine my happy surprise when I ran across this article that truly spoke to the Pollyanna side of me!

Turning Straw into Gold: Illness through a Buddhist Lens by Toni Bernard, J.D.

Ms Bernard offers 10 lessons she has learned during her 10 years of living with a chronic illness.  She offers a refreshing perspective of looking back at years past and gleans uplifting insight for the years ahead.

If I had to give the 5 lessons I have learned over the last 5 years of my own condition, here is what I would list.

1. I have learned that everyone needs help at some point and am grateful for those in my life that help me in a hundred small ways.
2.  I have learned that naps and resting are important and are not time wasters.  I am grateful that I have a job that allows me to work from home when I need to.
3.  I have learned to have patience with myself.
4.  I have learned that there is more to me than what I can do for others.
5.  I am learning to listen to my body and its cues that something is not right.

I truly enjoyed the article and the fresh perspective it has given me!  Please consider taking a minute, dear reader, to see things through this lens.

Quick Update

As you can see, it's been a while since I have been able to truly sit down and post.  It's not that I don't want to, its just that by the time I have a few moments to share my life with ya'll - I'm too exhausted to think.  Literally.

Please accept my apologies, but between fibro flareups, falling victim to a pain patch, my Mom being sick, staying swamped at work (got that promotion!), and fatigued beyond my wildest imagination... my cup is long past overflowing.

I will be back with ya'll soon (I hope!) or at least as soon as possible.  Thank you for understanding and your patience.

And thank you, readers, for your continued support!

-Facepalm- Thanks Fibro Fog

Its outrageously hot for June in Tennessee (98*) and I don't do well when its over a balmy breezy 70*.  Needless to say, I don't handle this heat well at all.

Because my truck doesn't have A/C, my Mom picked me up after work today.  She pulls up next to the door, and I hurry out with my stuff.  I open the back door and throw everything inside then sit down in the front seat.  It's hotter in the car than it is outside!  I say "Mom, why don't you have the air on, its hot" and look over... to the man behind the driver's seat.  His response was "Lady, you're in the wrong car" and began laughing.  I leaped out of the car and snatched my stuff out, I don't even remember if I apologized or not!

Can we just say that everyone watching had a good laugh and the next day, it was found just as funny when I recapped my adventures to coworkers and on twitter.

Boy, was my face red

Thank you, Fibro-Fog.
